Anti-Defamation League, an organization actively revolting against antisemitism, extremism, and bigotry, recently accused Elon Musk and X of being antisemitic and causing the big Billionaire to lose his cool.
This isn’t the first time Twitter has been accused of antisemitic, with the platform owner indulging in trolling and arguments with big celebrities over the platform.
A war has broken out between the organizations, as the X, previously Twitter owner Elon Musk responds to ADL’s accusation with a defamation lawsuit.
“To clear our platform’s name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!”, the X owner tweeted on Monday to explain the situation.
The billionaire also accused ADL of the recent fall in advertisement revenue in the U.S. “Our U.S. advertising revenue is still down 60%, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by @ADL (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!”
The Billionaire is also reported to be seen liking hashtags such as #BanTheADL, inflaming it to trend on the platform. The actions started after ADL talked about fighting against hate speech in his productive chat with X CEO Linda Yaccarino.
“Since the acquisition, The @ADL has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me and of being anti-Semitic,” said Elon Musk in his Tweet on Monday. “If this continues, we will have no choice but to file a defamation suit against, ironically, the “Anti-Defamation” League.”
The topic is increasingly catching flames after Elon Muska take over. In January, the platform faced a lawsuit from Germany for mishandling Holocaust denial, which is a crime in the country. Later after four months, the company fined the platform for inadequate actions against hate speech takedown from the platform.
The Billionaire himself has been spotted indulging in invoking antisemitic tropes and conspiracy theories after his feud with Jewish Billionaire George Soros.
X also filed a lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate(CCDH), a British non-profit organization in August, for unlawfully accessing the company data and conspiring against the platform by selectively choosing the hate tweets from the platform.
The organization published a report that estimated Twitter’s failure in taking down 99% of the hate promoted by Twitter Blue users. It questioned different aspects of the platform that contributed to the promotion of hate speech.
These constant lawsuits have cost the company a 56% fall in advertisement revenue with $88 million in revenue reported by the New York Times in May.
To blame ADL for X’s fall will be unfair. The company promotes free speech that increases the rate of hate content to surface on the platform. Along with no attempts being made by the company for the cause and in contradiction, X’s owner is caught in feuds with big celebrities on the platform.
