Smartwatches are quite mainstream these days, and no matter what your budget is, you can definitely find a fit for your budget. When there are a handful of smartwatches in almost all price segments, what mostly matters is the display, which is the heart of any smartwatch, the style, and the dial type, followed by some additional features, based on personal choices. Recently I purchased the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus, and just like every time, I am here with a brief review of the product to help you make your decision. 

This is different from other smartwatches in the segment due to the metallic strap instead of the silicon ones, and a circular dial, which I liked personally. But, it is not just the strap and the dial shape that matters in a smartwatch. The display, fitness tracking, and other features are something that most people look out for in a smartwatch, and hence I will talk about everything today in this review.

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with the review. I will start with the box contents, features, and hence will discuss the pros and cons at last.

Box contents:

In the box, you get the following.

• Warranty card

• Subscription card for different online services

So, those were the box contents of the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch. Nothing less, nothing more, you basically get these contents in other smartwatches too.

Features

Now, let’s look at the notable features of Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus. This should help you make a decision on whether this is for you.

Build quality and display

Smartwatches are supposed to be worn all day long, and hence both comfort and build quality play important roles. Talking about the build quality, Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus comes with a full metal body with an IP67 rating that makes it strong, sturdy, and ready for most everyday scenarios and even water sports.

Just like smartphones, smartwatches also need a bright and vibrant display. The Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus features a 1.43 inch 460×460 pixel display with a built-in Always-on Display.

Yes, there are thin bezels around the watch, just like most other watches in this segment, but the display quality with around 110 watch faces won’t disappoint you.

Bluetooth calling and other Bluetooth features

The Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus has a Bluetooth calling feature that can help you make and answer calls without taking the phone out of your pocket. Obviously, you can also dial your contacts, or make calls from entries in the call log.

With around 4 GB of internal storage, you can listen to music offline directly on the speaker that comes built-in within the smartwatch or by connecting TWS or Bluetooth audio devices to the watch.

Additionally, you can also use your smartwatch as a Bluetooth speaker to listen to music playing on your smartphone. In the Bluetooth menu toggle between Local mode to play music offline or Phone mode to use the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus as a Bluetooth speaker or a hands-free device during call.

Sports tracking and the sensors

With more than around 300 sports modes, no matter what your favorite sport or exercise is, you can surely find it and hence track the calories burnt through all such exercises. The modes are categorized based on the type of exercise to help you easily find the exercise you are going to carry out.

Talking about the sensors, the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus comes with heartrate, SpO2, and blood pressure sensors. The sensors that you get are similar to those that you get in most other watches in this price segment. Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus has a 24-hour health monitoring feature too.

Other features and the buttons

With Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus you can trigger the default Voice Assistant on your phone, like Google Assistant or Samsung Bixby, and can hence get the answers right on your wrist with the smartwatch.

There are 5 basic games, Snake, 2048, Color Blind Card, Tower of Hanoi, and Flappy Bird to help you pass your time when you have nothing to do. The gameplay isn’t extraordinary, and very basic to be true. There are two buttons with an active crown doubling up as another button.

The top button can be used to open the menu, and access the basic apps like timer, stopwatch, calculator, alarm, or other features, the crown can be used to scroll up and down, change the watch face, and the one at the bottom can be exclusively used to access the sport modes.

So, those are the features of the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch in short.

App functions and the experience

The Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus can be paired with the FB Invincible Plus Android app, which is not extraordinary, but does the job. With the FB Invincible Plus app, you can see sports records, track sleep in detail, change the watch face, and basically control the smartwatch. You can upgrade the firmware if an upgrade is available or reset the smartwatch in case you need to do so. 

All the sports modes cannot be started in the app, which I think could have been there. Using the FB Invincible Plus app, you can also set a custom watch face with your photo to make the watch look cool and have a personal touch on the watch. The app isn’t fancy, and I don’t think you will need to use the app as most features are available right on the watch.

Pros

Now that you know about the features of the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch, let’s have a look at the pros, where you can basically understand how well these features work in everyday life.

• The basic utility of any smartwatch is the display. Talking about the display in everyday life, there are 5 different brightness modes, and with around level 3 brightness, it is easily visible in sunlight. You can always increase the brightness levels to 4 or 5 if the sunlight is extremely strong, but you won’t need maximum brightness. The minimum brightness is the sweet spot for 24 hours unless you are going out in direct sunlight.

• When you are purchasing a smartwatch with the Bluetooth calling feature, you will expect it to work properly, where you should be able to hear clearly what the other party is saying, and you should also be audible to the other party. In indoor usage, where there’s not much noise, the Bluetooth calling feature works like a charm. I never heard the other party complaining about audibility. If you are out in a noisy environment, you can’t listen to the other party clearly, just like the speaker phone doesn’t work properly in a very noisy environment. So, that’s definitely not a con.

• The pedometer that counts the steps is fairly accurate, as long as you are continuously walking or running. The same goes for most other sensors. Both the SpO2 monitor and the heart rate sensor work well, and the monitoring can be done for 24 hours, however, that will impact the battery life. I have compared the values from the SpO2 monitor with a regular Fingertip Pulse Oximeter, and the values I got in both devices were almost the same. So, the SpO2 monitor works on par with other oximeters available in the market.

• The next important point is the battery. I won’t repeat all that mentioned in the manual, as it is going to vary totally based on how you use the watch. In my usage condition, where I don’t use it extensively for calling, say around 10 to 20 minutes a day, with the idle screen, i.e the Always-On Display from 7 AM to 10 PM, with sleep tracking, and health monitoring for 24 hours, I get a battery life of around 3 days. This is not bad, and even if you use it for extensive calling I don’t think you would get anything less than 3 days.

• The user interface is quite straightforward and responsive, and you can access the menu or the sports mode with two separate dedicated buttons. You can easily enable or disable Bluetooth calling feature by toggling between Phone mode, and Local mode in the Bluetooth settings. It is also easy to change the watch faces by simply rotating the crown or by a long tap on the watch face.

• Due to the OLED display in the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch, there is a flashlight mode, which can be extremely useful if you suddenly need to find something. This might seem to be a trivial feature, but trust me, it is definitely going to help you when you are in a totally dark place, and you need to open locks or find something important.

So those were the pros of the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch.

Cons

Now that you know about the pros of the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch, let’s have a look at the cons or the factors that I didn’t like about the Fire-Boltt Invincible Plus smartwatch.

• While there are around 110 watch faces, which is great, rotating the crown or long tap on the display changes the watch face. It happens to me almost every time when I am sleeping or doing some other work, when the crown rotates accidentally, which changes the watch’s face. It is really irritating to see the watch’s face changing accidentally. I wish there was an option to lock the watch face either from the smartwatch settings or the app.

• When an alarm is set, the watch vibrates. Unless you are in a light sleep, I didn’t find the alarm to be effective enough to wake you up. So, the alarm is kind of useless for waking you up, but not totally ineffective. If you do some activity regularly, you can set 5 alarms at 5 different times of the day to remind you of the time, which can be useful, just like the reminders on your phone, but this time on your wrist.

• The pedometer is fairly accurate, however, if you aren’t walking continuously, say you are doing some household work, and are walking very few steps, I found the pedometer to register double the number of steps walked. I think it can be solved with a future firmware upgrade. Talking about the blood pressure monitor, the results are not accurate at all. For those having fairly normal blood pressure, the reading is close to the readings by blood pressure monitoring devices available in the market, however, if you have hypertension, the readings will be totally different from what clinical devices display. For females, there could have been a menstrual tracking option, which is also not available in this watch.

• The watch comes with a magnetic pogo connector to charge and can also be used to transfer music or other files between the watch and the PC. But the connector can easily disconnect if you move the smartwatch even slightly while charging. Furthermore, the cable provided isn’t strong, and in case you lose it, you have no way to charge the watch. I wish there was a charging pad with a Type-C connector so that you can use any Type-C cable to charge, and while traveling, you just need the pad with you.

So, those were basically the cons. Nothing is perfect, and obviously, you can’t get the perfect smartwatch with everything at less than Rs. 5,000. You might find other problems based on your usage, like the inability to integrate health data with Google Fit, etc., but that won’t bother most users. If I try to involve myself in nitpicking, there will be more cons, which I don’t think will actually have an impact on how you use the smartwatch.

Verdict

A smartwatch is not a sensor that will accurately monitor your health for 24 hours. The heart rate, Oxygen saturation, and blood pressure can be vitals in medical terms, but it is advisable not to over-depend on a smartwatch for health monitoring. A clinical device can do this better. Talking about the build quality, display, Bluetooth calling, and sports tracking which are the aspects that people look for in a smartwatch, this product really shines. 

The metal strap can also easily be adjusted at a local watch repair shop. Some might say, there could have been a tool to adjust the strap size, but adjusting the strap size is not something one will need to do every day, and hence I don’t think that is a deal-breaker, or will actually bother users. This is actually a value-for-money smartwatch, and you won’t regret using it.
