In an exclusive interview with Avneet Singh Marwah, Director and CEO, Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd., A Brand licensee for Kodak and Thomson, we got a chance to know more about: How they are working to achieve their goal of transforming the Kodak from a Camera brand to Television. Mr Marwah has been in the Television business for the last 25 years, he said, you could consider making television is in our DNA. Over these 25 years, we have created infrastructure throughout the country with 28 offices and more than 300 service centres across India.
SPPL was established in 1992. It was started with the manufacturing of plastic mouldings. After managing the manufacturing of mouldings for almost every brand of television sets, they had started manufacturing televisions for themselves with the launch of brands like Beltek and Crown. Then came the period of transition. Customers began shifting from CRT televisions to LED. Then they realized that now is the LED era and they need to move to stay in given year-on-year increasing market size. So, with an established infrastructure of 28 offices and 50 company-owned service centres, they decided to associate with a brand of international repute. Then Mr. Marwah got this strategy in mind; he travelled to Rochester, New York and met some of the senior executives at Kodak.
The Eastman company Kodak had been actively looking for technology and lifestyle product segments where it could possibly lend its brand name to ensure a global consumer footprint. Kodak executives were initially a little apprehensive about associating the brand with televisions, but the size of the Indian market and the company’s willingness for a revival and long-term sustenance of the brand convinced them to sign the deal, trusting SPPL’s experience and capability in the region. In this way, SPPL successfully set up another LED televisions brand under the profound name of Kodak.
