Famous dating app Bumble brings about new changes to its revised guidelines. These new updates focus on cracking down on bots, ghosting, and doxing. The company is observed to be taking every possible precaution to upgrade safety norms in the application. This will provide users with a safe and authentic dating experience.
Last year, Bumble took action against increased nudism on its platform and open-sourced its algorithm to detect and ban such activities from the platform. It has also added a clause to ban adult content from the platform and discourage activities such as buying, selling, and promoting sexual content.
In its revamped guidelines, Bumble has prohibited “connections, matching, conversations, or engagement through the use of automation or scripting.” It further stated that with the help of its AI, they were successful in detecting 8.2 million fake and spam accounts from across the platform.
Bumble also targets the highly uprising issue of ghosting in its new guidelines. The company states it will now count as a “no-show” on dates when two parties decide to meet and one of them doesn’t show up, Ghosting will be taken as an offense under the “Bullying and Abusive Conduct” policy in the newly revised guidelines. To reduce ghosting complaints from the platform.
This is not the first time Bumble has acknowledged the issue of ghosting. It previously published a help page on the issue stating that it is simply the other person’s loss.
“Bumble believes in being real about the imperfect nature of dating. We fully get that ghosting can be disappointing or frustrating, but sometimes it happens,” the page had said. “If someone suddenly stops messaging you, see it as their loss and an opportunity to find someone better for you.”
Bumble also added issues such as doxing and victim-blaming as rule-breaking offenses in its “Bullying and Abusive Conduct” policy. Bumble has not yet shared details on the implementation of these new clauses or whether the company also plans to upgrade the reporting option on the application.
Moreover, the changes will be implemented in all three applications powered by the company including Bumble, Badoo, and the newly released Bumble for Friends app.
While the company strives to make its platform safer, it will have to find drastic techniques to ensure the off-platform implication of the rules.
